Coming to a theater near you…

Posted by Glenda under Rants

Has anyone noticed how many horror movies are out there lately? And by lately, I mean since last year. It used to be that for the most part the thrillers were saved for around October & late fall..

But for a while now they have been coming out with new ones constantly, and it just makes me wonder why. They must be taking in some money at the theater I guess, otherwise they wouldn’t keep making them.

I don’t have anything against horror movies, to each his own I suppose. They aren’t my thing though, simply because I’m just too much of a sissy and gory things make me hide under the blankets and then give me nightmares.

Anyway, I do wonder why there is such a fascination with death and gore lately. I remember after 9/11 even the most mild violence was considered carefully before it left for the TV or the theaters. Americans had witnessed a true nightmare, complete with gore and tragic death, and it made them more sensitive to whether or not it was appropriate to glorify death. Obviously many have gotten past 9/11, and I never thought it should change things, but in some areas I always thought it would have been nice if the incident made people more aware of how they spend their time, and drown themselves in everything but life and reality. They say 9/11 woke up a sleeping country, but it looks to me as though we are starting to nod off again. I think if you want to see death and destruction all you have to do is read up on our war in Iraq, or refresh your mind of the dead lying in the streets after Hurricane Katrina, or think of the Tsunami victims…and the list goes on.

Maybe this all sounds overly critical, because after all, it’s only entertainment. The target audience for these types of movies might just be for all the teens, cause it seems it’s popular with them. So maybe it says nothing about our country and it’s people, and I’m just reading too much into it.

It’s happened before.

The Lost Nation

Posted by Glenda under Fav's, Rants

I don’t know about anyone else, but lately, I can’t help but feel discouraged, hopeless, and uncertain about where our nation is headed. If you were to ask me if I feel secure about my future on this earth right now it would be a resounding NO. Every direction I look is one looming threat after another, that all jeopardize our existence as we know it. The greatest frustration is that I feel we are at a cross road; we have the choice right now to recognize where things are headed, and then take action to prevent it, but I don’t think we will have the choice for much longer. If we can’t start working together as Americans and stop segregating ourselves from each other, I see terrible things happening in our future, everything from the state of our economy, to terrorist activities, to another natural disaster, and once again seeing our government fail us as we see more of our people fall behind the poverty line, or become random victims of an attack because our government can’t secure our ports or even define our borders.

My intentions here isn’t to complain about our government though, it’s to complain about the people that should have a grasp on their government, but have lost it through meaningless distraction, and apathy, and ignorance. This includes a vast majority of average American citizens, and I by no means exclude myself. But I ask, how long can we hang our heads in frustration, before it compels us to get off our ass and do something about it? Our nation was formed FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, yet we’ve grown into a nation where Corporations reign, with a government that isn’t willing to oppose the corporations for the good of the people.

“Money is the root of ALL evil” — this is a statement that I will hold true until the day I die. With money comes power, and with power follows greed, and not too far behind is the stank of destruction and death. All in the name of money.

What America needs to do is forget all our differences and stop bickering, and demand a government that WILL stand against corporate dominance, as well as embrace the principles our country was found on, and that is religious freedom. We were formed as a melting pot, and it used to be a source of pride and even power, because we stood united for the common goal of our country.

Now days, one religious sect type casts another and judgments fly free, as our character is judged by what religion we subscribe too. If I were to say I believe in GOD, but not in religion, sure to follow is someone questioning my morals, or even claiming I have none. This is the kind of thing that is dividing us one by one. Morality can be summed up quite easily, it’s the difference and perceptions of what is right and what is wrong. Perception varies, but I believe we all know where the fine line is even with your religious affiliations aside, and those who cross the line into what is wrong are not from one particular religion or another, they are from all different walks of life and all areas religion. If you cut out all the BS, in the end we are HUMAN, and if we are to co-exist, we need to accept each other and stop generalizing each other. Come spend a weekend with me, get to know me, lets discuss our differences and appreciate them….and then and only then, if you must, judge me & form your educated opinion of me - that is something I can respect.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

~ Abraham Lincoln

If we can’t start to work out our differences and compromise with each other, and if we continue to divide ourselves by the color red or the color blue, I do believe we are headed for very trying times, and in great danger of losing everything our ancestors fought for us to have. It’s true that we’ve always been divided by our many different liberal and conservative opinions/ views, but never before has it been more clear that we need to unite and pull this country back together..there are just too many issues on our plate for any of us to handle it alone. Two minds will always be better than one. We need to excite this so called “democracy” because it’s turning into nothing but a farce, and more like a dictatorship every day that passes.

And finally, here is an old saying that holds very true:

“ultimately the people will get the government they deserve”

We do get the government we deserve, and right now our lack of interest in who we are electing, or our individual bias, has given us exactly what we are demanding, which isn’t much.

Robert M. Hutchins once said that “The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment”

So by all means, feel free to disagree with me, or agree, whichever..because if your thinking about your country and it’s politics, then your discussing something besides the latest TV show, which means your on the right track. I think in most homes today conversations are very limited to superficial things and to talk about your government is considered boring unless your trash talking them, then it’s all good. All I am asking is to go one step further and think about what you could do to change the things you don’t like, and that when you do this, you don’t only look out for your belief system but also keep in mind other’s beliefs, and open your mind enough to hear ALL the facts from ALL sides — Not generalizations, not blanket statements or fabrications..but FACTS.

I personally think it’s an interesting subject, even if opposing views do get me a little fired up from time to time..I enjoy the interaction. It reminds me why we have the choice, and why we must take advantage of our freedoms, because in our liberty holds great power.

So long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom, those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping men.

~ Voltaire

And if your wondering what brought this rant about, well, it’s been brewing for a while now, and then was finally brought to a head as I was up with a headache most of last night watching CNN..which usually I stay away from, because it gets these kinds of things started! haha. I’m starting to think more people need to rant about their views and politics though, maybe it will be contagious, and better yet, spring them into action.

What action will I be taking, you might ask? This post was my first step, even though my audience base is pretty small..one can only hope it gets around, and I’m also thinking of using the rest of my black ink cartridge to print out this post and distribute it too various mailboxes. Maybe it’s silly, or the impact will be next to nothing, but it’s in the right direction and that’s all I care about. I’m tired of watching the news and feeling powerless because of the inaction that surrounds me.

You can also go here to see what you can do in your local area; it’s a good starting point.

And we’re off!

Mat Kearney
My gorgeous sisters in law Linsy & Blair, waiting for the concert to start

The concert was BEYOND words. It was a quaint, small setting and we sat at a table in the balcony, that had a great view of the stage. So we just sat there and chilled..jammed. Awesome I tell ya.

This dude, Matt Kearney, was the opening act. I’m his new fan. His first song was “Bullet” and it was so sweet..and I’m such a sucker for those things that I just wanted to take him home. Seriously. Not to mention the talent..

He has a site where it plays his new album, “Nothing Left To Lose”, which releases on April 4th…if your interested, GO HERE, and check it out!

Moving on, next up was The Fray, and let me tell you, these guys are great live. They are one of those bands that sound even better live..not that you had any complaints listening to them on CD! The lead singer commanded your attention with a powerful voice, and the band was right behind him making it even better. He also did a lot of jamming on his piano, which was truly awesome.

It was so awesome that I didn’t even take that many pictures. I took some video on my cam of it, but it sounds crappy because it was so loud. Linsy took some footage and pics too, so I’m anxiously awaiting her to forward them to me!!

Anyway, it was a great night and the best $12 I’ll ever spend, that for sure!

Sunday I also saw my sister Deawn, it was a short visit, but a nice one. I got some cute pictures of her little one..she is just too cute. I tried to post a picture of her up here, but so far it’s not happening..so maybe later.

I am off to such a SLOWWWwwwww start this week..it’s pitiful.

Ahhh..here we go: Ms. Mazzie Marie

(totally zonked after having a bottle)

About to stick her tongue out at me..

Even babies have to have thier vice…hehe

Easily entertained

Posted by Glenda under My Art

Tonight is the concert! I’m pretty stoked, I mean I’m actually getting out of the house, which is rare now days. And on a weekend too??!! Hold on to your seats folks..

Last night I had some wine, got totally buzzed and painted a picture. The pitiful thing is I think it is my favorite to date..and I painted it while I was tipsy. hehe

Hmmm..I might have to start a trend there ;)

Anyway, I’ll post it a little later on..cause I just know everyone is as excited as I am about it..or maybe not — but I’ll pretend you are. (it helps my ego)

**Updated**

OK here it is….enjoy & have a great weekend everyone!

Can bloggers go too far?!?!?!

Posted by Glenda under Fav's, Rants

The other night I was bored and clicking on the “next blog” button on the top toolbar. So, I’m clicking away, because more than half of them were in a different language, until one caught my eye (it was english, and it wasn’t written by a pre-teen). Anyway, it was some middle aged dude, and I was reading his latest post, when all of a sudden he started going into how when he was out recently at Target with his kids, he had an “accident” and shit his pants while having a big sneeze??

WTF? Over.

Apparently he has a problem with his bowels, and he went into how he bought new underwear while he was in Target, and changed at a local rest stop. And how this happened the last time he was at Target.

Haha..GOOD LORD!

You needed to know that didn’t you?? Yeah, me too.

This is my first “official” clue that blogging has gone too far.

I mean, NO ONE wants to hear about that kind of stuff..with possibly the exception of doctors, who can help solve your problem. Or possibly your spouse..but even then, it’s tricky. Even your own parent’s - they don’t want to hear about that…it’s just not RIGHT to do that to someone. Then, let alone, unleash your story upon an innocent blogger, as you share it with the whole world.

Because everyone really wants to know about you shitting your pants?? Honestly? What’s going through your head at that point? How about this : just say your trip to Target was “shitty”…but don’t go into details, that way you get it off your chest, but haven’t grossed out your readers in the process. hehe. That’s an option right?

I mean I have a huge problem with my bowels too, but usually I just say I’ve had a “crappy day” or I’m “really pissed” — You know, because I look out for my loyal readers..lol.

Ok, seriously..

Sometimes things are better left inside your head. Don’t you think??

Is there no discretion anymore? Anything having to do with bodily functions should really not be said, especially if it’s not even meant to be funny, or sarcastic..and just an actual real account of how you crap your pants.

I feel for you dude, I really do..but please, NEXT TIME.. SPARE ME. ;)

Mario to the rescue!!

Posted by Glenda under Randomness

Today I bought “Super Mario Sunshine” for my gamecube. I’ve wanted it forever, and this week I’m just bored enough to buy it. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow. Yay!

I think I’m starting to get into my moody part of the month…..Earlier today I was watching an artist spotlight of Kid Rock on VH1, and it made me cry. Like when his little guy friend died..it was so touching. And when his dad finally said he was proud of him, and was choking up as he said it..oh man, I so lost it.

Not to mention last night….when I watched the Sopranos and poor Tony was there in the hospital bed with breathing tubes down him. Down right depressing & it reminded me of my dad. Anyway..they need to bring Tony back. I like my “alpha male” dang it!

So either it’s my hormones, or TV just has a lot of sad stuff on it. I’m betting the latter.

Three Cheers For Friday!

Posted by Glenda under Randomness

Ok I’m not in a better mood yet b/c blogger is not cooperating with me today. I’ve been trying to update my art page for an hour now, and their upload tool is down and it won’t let me put up any pics. Grrr.

Now I have to find something else to do..and I’m bored. BORED. And I have that attitude where I’d rather sit and do nothing then do something about it.

Bored & lazy - not a good combination (so my hubby says)

Friday needs to hurry on up and get here.

My Fart Monster

Posted by Glenda under Randomness

I’ve been in a real groove with painting ever since I said I wasn’t in a groove. Go figure, but now I know what to say in case I ever get in a funk again? Is it ever that easy?

I got the 5th season of the Sopranos in the mail yesterday, so that’s why I haven’t been up to blogging much. I’ve been sitting my arse on the couch in the evening and chillin…and man, is my couch COMFORTABLE. Early this year we got some new leather couches, and they rock. It’s rare I actually enjoy them though, because most of the time I’m sitting in the desk chair.

Last night I was in bed at 10:30, it’s the first time in months I’ve turned in that early. I slept like a baby too, it was awesome. Unfortunately I don’t think sleep has anything to do with my intellect, the more sleep I get, the less I seem to have to say. When I’m tired, rants come easily, so it doesn’t make the most sense. I’m a much cooler person when I’m tired and hung over..hehe..REALLY..I am.

OKAY. Enough of saying nothing.

BTW tomorrow is St. Paddies day, as well as my dog Gatsby’s birthday (pic above)..5 years ago I was driving across Germany to go pick up my little fart monster..oh the memories, hehe.

So Happy Birthday Gats!!

Audrey revealed!

Posted by Glenda under Randomness

Push play to see/hear Audrey

I had to get this on video because the girl just amazes me sometimes. She doesn’t even hear this song that much, but every time she does she gets in this somber space-cadet mode and just looks so darn sad…you would think SHE wrote the song…haha.

And then of course, she knows the lyrics, which cracks me up. Also notice the sad puppy dog eyes, and then 2 seconds later her snapping out of it. It’s like she’s getting into a “role” and can easily just pop right out of it when it suits her. This is half the reason she makes my life so hard, haha.

Oh, ignore the fact that I sound like an ogre. I think it was because I was so close to my camera? Or maybe I always sound that way..that would be scary!
