Bummed

Posted by Glenda under The Worst, work woes

It’s always hard when you get your hopes up for something, and totally work up your ego to where you believe that “Yes! I can do this!” and then things don’t quite work out the way you hoped. Life checks you and puts you back in your place…it royally sucks. That sinking feeling in your chest. The tingling in your nose as you fight back the urge to cry. The need to go grab a glass of wine A.S.A.P.

The Worst.

Blah.

Oh well, at least I can say I tried. I do think it’s better knowing than not knowing because I never even tried.

Sorry I’m so cryptic, I would just rather not re-hash it in my mind again.

Moving on…

Wow! It’s Friday and I’m awake and NOT tired - very cool. I got over 10 hours of sleep last night, so I am good to go. I needed it though because I worked the night before and never went to sleep the next day. By 9 o’clock last night I was useless. And my feet hurt.

Anyway..look at this little guy…

How freakin cute is that?? Click on the pic to go to the sellers store on Etsy. Now my dilemma is, do I just buy this little cutie for $8 (plus $2.50 for shipping) or go spend a few dollars less and try to make my own nifty little lucky penny holder? Of course I could fail and my creature could turn out awful, then I’d just be out some money. Hmmm. Decisions decisions…

Woe is me.  I’m missing this one guy I used to know - his name is Tim (total hottie!).  Have you seen him?  If you have, tell him I miss him and it sucks that his blog is gone, even though he never wrote in it anyway.

Ok.  So that’s all for now. I’m headed to bed.  I have the night off!  Hells yeah.  Cause I’m super duper tired.  I spent all day at the tire store.  It WAS NOT fun.

Sweet Dreams everyone..

The First 30 Days

Posted by Glenda under Uncategorized

I’m still alive, don’t worry! Audrey’s birthday party wasn’t that crazy ;) Her day went off pretty well actually. We went out to eat because she wanted to have the folks at Texa’s Roadhouse sing Happy Birthday to her while she sat on the saddle…she’s such a goofball. After dinner we went to a fair that was in town and got ripped off a little bit…totally pissed me off, so you won’t be seeing me at another Watertown, NY fair again. I’m a little bitter, even if it was only $20 - it was MY $20 and it was not worth a little Hello Kitty cheap reproduction stuffed animal. Not at all. Told you I was bitter!

In other GREAT news - Did you know that this is my 400TH post!?!?! I noticed that while logging on to wordpress and I thought it was pretty cool. Just a drop in the bucket compared to some bloggers out there, but it’s something!

So yay. Happy 400th post Glenda ! :) (someone has to say it!)

Hmm. Besides that my life has been incredibly boring so far this week. I want to sew but I need to finish priming and painting the desk first. Hopefully I’ll get to it this weekend because I have a easy YET FABULOUS sewing pattern I found for a sewing machine cover…so I’m itching to make it, and hopefully not ruin it!

One thing of mention is a book I bought recently that is definitely worth it’s weight in gold. It’s called “The First 30 Days” by Ariane de Bonvoisin. It’s all about “change” and rolling with it…accepting it…not running from it…stuff like that. I’ve never been bad with accepting change, god knows I’ve had my share of it in life, but as far as making the changes I need to make to make my life better, and happier, I’m not so great. This book is helping though, and I highly recommend it. If you click on the book title up there it takes you to Amazon where you can read more about it. Also, if your are interested in buying it, Amazon has the best price out there as far as I can tell. I got my copy at local bookstore and paid $24. I was too inpatient to wait for it to come in the mail. Go figure.

Oh yeah! There’s also a website that’s related to the book that really helpful. It’s at www.first30days.com — definitely worth a look if you ask me.

Happy Birthday Audrey!

Posted by Glenda under Audrey, Happy Birthday

Here are a few pictures we’ve taken so far…I will add more later, so check back!

The picture of the shirt is her “Birthday Shirt” I made her.  I totally cheated with printable fabric and just ironed on the “5″ - I did design the 5 though!  That counts for something right??  hehe

Doodles And Dreams

Posted by Glenda under Art, Audrey, Cafe Press

I came home from work yesterday morning and Andrew told me about a dream that he had that lasted most of the night. The dream was of him smoking crack with Willie Nelson? Yeah..let me see someone interpret that one! Especially since Andrew has never smoked or tried drugs, hehe. Anyway, I thought it was hilarious.

I meant to take pictures of my bottle cap magnets yesterday, but never got around to it. Meanwhile I thought I’d share a little project I’ve been half-ass working on. It’s a shop I opened up at Cafe Press. The idea came when Audrey handed me some artwork she drew for me one day and I thought it was just beautiful so I decided to scan it and upload it so that I could have it on all kinds of cool things. Audrey sure thinks it’s cool too…to see her artwork on a mug or clock etc…

Right now I only have the one image that was created by Audrey, but hopefully soon I’ll have more from not only Audrey but Taylor too!

Anyway, so feel free to browse my little “store” I created..some of the items turned out really cool. Just click on the picture above and it will take you right to the shop!!

Hello Again!

Posted by Glenda under Etsy, Updates

I’ve been enjoying the sunny days a little too much apparently….my poor blog has suffered. Andrew’s has been on vacation since last week and will be until next Monday, so I’ve been soaking up some family time the past week. I haven’t sewed much (notable anyway) but Monday I found a sewing desk. Once I get it painted its going to look fantastic! I’m going to have my own little sewing nook…and it’s going to rock! As soon as it’s all together I’ll take pictures :)

Sunday I made some really cool bottle cap magnets. Like 50 of them. hehe. Andrew and I were at Applebee’s and I asked the bartender where they put all their beer bottle caps, and come to find out they put them all in this special little beer cap holder. So he emptied it out and put them all in a bag for me. Whoo hoo..and off I was to make magnets. They are awesome…and all over my fridge. So if anyone else out there is interested in a some cool magnets for the fridge, let me know! I have enough to share! I think it’s my new hobby..go figure!

Oh yeah, and we also went to a cool antique store that used to be a jail house. It was sorta creepy, but way cool. I got a few teacups and matching saucers that I’m going to make candles out of. I saw the idea on Etsy and I’m going to copy it. Noone ever said I was original ;)

My idea is to make upcycled stuff little by little and then eventually have my own little Etsy store so I can sell some if it. Time will tell if I follow through…

I still haven’t mastered the bottle cutting thing. Haven’t given up either. I want so badly for it to be possible! So far it’s just created a bunch of half portions of wine/beer bottles with cracks running down the side.

Anyway, so that’s that. I’m going to try and get on the ball with writing in here again. If nothing else, I especially will once Andrew goes back to work.

Update: I just found out via Karl’s last post that Big Brother 10 has started?? Holy hell…how did I not know this?? Good thing they have all the episodes online…wheww. There are really only a few shows I ever feel that I “have” to watch and Big Brother is one of them. I didn’t really follow the last season because it came at a odd time …but I’m all about Big Brother in the summer. Yay..totally excited!

On Self Defeat

Posted by Glenda under I Have Issues, Randomness, Rants, bored

And a lot of other rambling thoughts…

“You are standing at the edge of a significant shift in your life, yet you aren’t quite ready for all the pieces to fall into place. You might even postpone some important personal plans in order to buy yourself some much-needed time. Don’t worry about when the changes will happen because appointments with destiny are always on time.”

This is what my horoscope said today. I’m not huge on Astrology, but sometimes I find it pretty interesting, especially if I can relate to it at the time. This little paragraph today has really got me thinking.

Lately I’ve been trying to “branch out” …the “mainstream” is boring the shit out of me. The endless cycle of the job I’m in right now has me looking for other options. It’s an easy job, hell, I’m blogging from it..so there’s not much to complain about. Well except for the fact that it’s one of those jobs that is unlikely to go anywhere…or even become more of a challenge. Challenge is essential. I need to be challenged..whether it be by my employer, my spouse, friends, family..etc. It keeps things interesting, and when I find myself getting too comfortable, especially if I’m on a crooked path, to have someone straighten me out is priceless.

I don’t think I’m making sense, but my point was, I like to grow..learn, excel..move forward. If I feel I’m not doing any of that, it bothers me immensely.

By learning to sew I’m learning something new, and my creative juices thank me. As for excelling or really moving forward and challenging myself? Yeah, not so much.

Yesterday I sent out a letter of intent for a job that was posted. I talked big game, and implied I was perfect for the job….which, at the time I thought I was. An hour later I got a reply and a phone number to call to discuss the details. I froze…and it took me 6 hours to return the call.

Why? Fuck if I know. Or maybe I do. Maybe I’m scared of failing? Maybe it’s the potential change? Whatever it was, it was stupid and I need to wake the hell up. I had to leave a message and for all I know, this opportunity has passed me by. I am extremely self defeating sometimes. If there is a pill out there that would take this trait away, I’d be the first to stand in line. I say “pill” because NO…I don’t want to discuss it, at least not with a shrink. It’s just how it is. We are all fucked up in our own ways and this is mine. I’m trying to break away from it, but it its harder than you can ever imagine. For every positive thought in my head that tells me I can do something, there are about 100 others telling me I’m not worthy and am kidding myself. It pisses me off because I know better…I know can totally kick ass at whatever I set my mind to, but regardless if it isn’t conscious thoughts messing me up, its the unconscious choices I make that really make the impact.

ANyway. This wasn’t supposed to be a heavy post. Just thoughts. I’m hoping I get called back again for the job and I haven’t ruined my chances. And if it’s indeed true that I am standing on the edge of a significant shift in my life…I hope it’s a good shift, and not just talking about Andrew deploying in October. Thats definitely a shift too…but not the one I’m hoping for. It’s inevitable he will leave, but when he does I would love to be buzzing around life…learning new roles, new skills, etc, so the impact isn’t so severe.

When Andrew leaves for Iraq he puts on his game face and it’s “work time” and plenty of it. He doesn’t have a lot of spare time to sulk or feel sorry for himself. That’s the way I want it to be for me. Of course it will bother me, but I want to be so busy that I won’t notice as much. Make any sense?

Goodness. If there was ever a rambling post with a lot of points but no conclusion, this would be it!

Getting back to the beginning of this post - the part of the horoscope that says “appointments with destiny are always on time”. Comforts me immensely.

I have to have faith that in time, every thing will work itself out and no matter where I end up, I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Blessed

Posted by Glenda under Fabric Love, Taylor, Update

These fabrics make me drool… (kinda sorta)

They are part of Joel Dewberry’s new line “Ginseng” – Goodness..now I see why babies like their “blankies” so much! — If it was even remotely acceptable, I would carry these fabric swatches everywhere! Hehe. I wish I was kidding, but they make me that happy just too look at a picture of them…let alone if I had real examples? Yeah, all bets would be off…ticket to the crazy house or not!

Unfortunately his new line costs over $14 a yard…and that’s on sale! Eeek. Not sure I want to be practicing sewing on $14 a yard fabric. Soon though…very soon :)

Uhhh hemm. Anyway, enough about my fabric obsession!

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past several days, I had a great weekend that gently worked it’s way into Monday….

Friday I went to the fabric store…so that was great in itself, and then I made Audrey’s dress, so I couldn’t really ask for more from the 4th of July. Exciting life I lead eh?

Saturday we spent the day in Clayton NY, which is about 25 min from our house. You can’t beat spending a day by the water and enjoying the charm a small town brings. They had fireworks that night which was nice too. I ended up buying the girls jackets because it was chilly..haha. That’s funny to me. Wearing anything with sleeves in July is just ridiculous…let alone fleece LONG sleeves. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining…I just think it’s funny and slightly pitiful! Love it though.

Sunday was Taylor’s Birthday! I took her to get her nails done and we went out to lunch. It was a good time. So hard to believe she’s 12! {{{{scary}}}}

So that was basicially my weekend. Monday was nothing to speak of, I had to stay at work a little later than I would have liked so I when I got home I crashed until about 7pm tonight. Then I ate and watched the season finale of The Bachelorette. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that might have missed it, but…um…really? It totally caught me off gaurd. Totally. Anyone else relate?

My First Project!

Posted by Glenda under Sewing

In the last few hours I’ve learned to thread the bobbin & thread the machine, as well as play with a few dials on my sewing machine trying to figure out how each setting changed the stitch width and distance…

A few hours before that, I went to JoAnn Fabrics and picked up some fabric for a few “easy” projects I found in a book. The fabrics are awesome..now hopefully I don’t mess it all up! Anyway, Audrey was there with me and she picked out this cool fabric they sell that is kind of “cheating” because it already has this elastic band thingy (have no idea what the technical term is?) around the top of it that makes it like a halter top. All you have to do once you buy it is sew a seam together, and put a tie for around the neck. They had all sorts of designs, but Audrey is crazy about tinkerbell so that was her choice!

Moving on..let me just show you my finished project!! May I present Audreys new dress!! She is in love with it…and so am I!

What do you think?  Cute huh?  They also have some real pretty patterns and sizes for women.  Next in line is Taylor!
